From Soho to high-end Next Generation Security firewall. Auto-sense/Threats Detective Engine, pfsense alternative

Halon Security Router : The securityrouter.org project is a network operating system and software distribution based on OpenBSD, with the main differentiator being the single, revision-managed, clear-text configuration file with soft re-configuration (atomic commits) editable from CLI and web interface, and documented security architecture.

In general, it's a routing platform with security and VPN features. It aims to be a replacement for proprietary solutions like Cisco IOS and Juniper Junos. You can download it for free and run it from (for example) a USB stick in a x86 computer (anything from the affordable PC Engines to high end systems with 10GE cards), or as a virtual machine. New user are encouraged to read the getting started page.
OPNsense is an open source, pfsense alternative, a fork of pfsense, simple, easy-to-use and easy-to-build HardenedBSD based firewall and routing platform. OPNsense includes most of the features available in expensive commercial firewalls, and more in many cases. It brings the rich feature set of commercial offerings with the benefits of open and verifiable sources.

OPNsense started as a fork of pfSense® and m0n0wall in 2014, with its first official release in January 2015. The project has evolved very quickly while still retaining  familiar aspects of both m0n0wall and pfSense. A strong focus on security and code quality drives the development of the project.

OPNsense offers weekly security updates with small increments to react on new emerging threats within in a fashionable time.  A fixed release cycle of 2 major releases each year offers businesses the opportunity to plan upgrades ahead. For each major release a roadmap is put in place to guide development and set out clear goals.

The standard of open source cyber security : pfSense OS

pfSense : The pfSense project is a network firewall distribution, full features, based on the FreeBSD operating system with a custom kernel and including third party free software packages for additional functionality. pfSense software, with the help of the package system, is able to provide the same functionality or more of common commercial firewalls, without any of the artificial limitations. It has successfully replaced every big name commercial firewall you can imagine in numerous installations around the world, including Check Point, Cisco PIX, Cisco ASA, Juniper, Sonicwall, Netgear, Watchguard, Astaro, and more.

pfSense software includes a web interface for the configuration of all included components. There is no need for any UNIX knowledge, no need to use the command line for anything, and no need to ever manually edit any rule sets. Users familiar with commercial firewalls catch on to the web interface quickly, though there can be a learning curve for users not familiar with commercial-grade firewalls.

IPFire is a hardened, versatile, state-of-the-art Open Source firewall based on Linux. Its ease of use, high performance in any scenario and extensibility make it usable for everyone.
